VODAFONE McLAREN MERCEDES LAUNCH EXCITING NEW TEAM MERCHANDISE
Woking, Surrey, UK, Wednesday 28th February 2007: In the build up to the 2007 season, the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team has launched, for the first time in McLaren's 41 year history, a full range of team replica products for fans.
The 'Team' range, which is available online now, includes Vodafone McLaren Mercedes caps, T-shirts, sweatshirts, gilets and waterproof jackets. All these brand new items have been created with style and functionality in mind using performance fabrics.
The range is a replication of the team's 2007 racewear, which was designed with HUGO BOSS, leading fashion and lifestyle group and Corporate Partner to the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team. The racewear, which was debuted in January at the Team Presentation in Valencia, Spain, has been designed using the latest intelligence on fabrics and product engineering, and will be worn by the drivers and team members at all racetracks throughout the season. These products have been reproduced for the ‘Team' range for a more inclusive approach for fans.
A particular highlight of the range is a collection of derivative styles featuring the names, autographs and car numbers of the two drivers: Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton. To present the 'Team' range, both Fernando and Lewis enthusiastically modelled the clothing with the McLaren Technology Centre used as a backdrop for the photography.
"It is really great that Vodafone McLaren Mercedes are introducing this clothing for the fans to buy. It is such a visual way for people to show their support, and it's always fantastic to see," commented Fernando. "The fact that Lewis and I are modelling the clothes brings the connection with the team even closer to our supporters and it is something that I am really excited about."
Lewis was equally as impressed with the new collection. "I have to say that this new collection of replica clothing looks really cool. This is a really fresh look and, as someone who is really into his clothes, I am impressed with the detail that has gone into the range."
Much of the Team range of clothing is already available to purchase through the eShop on www.mclaren.com. It will also be available off-line in the merchandising area at each grand prix throughout the 2007 season, starting
with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, and through selected retail outlets throughout Europe including many premium department stores.
"With this new Team clothing, we really wanted to bring the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team closer to the fans and what better way to reach them than by clothing them in the team’s racewear," commented Ron Dennis, Chairman and CEO, McLaren Group. In addition to the 'Team' range, a second line - "Active"™ - will be launched in April. This will feature a collection of stylish and functional sportswear products for active men and women. All the products in this
range reflect Vodafone McLaren Mercedes' philosophy for performance and style. One example of the advanced functionality of this range is a jacket that enables you to connect your MP3 player and control the volume by touching certain points on the sleeve.
