THE “KINGS OF KUSTOM”
TO MAKE PERSONAL APPEARANCES IN PPG BOOTH AT SEMA
The PPG booth at SEMA #22891 will feature personal appearances by two of the most famous customizers in the world. George Barris, known as the “King of the Kustomizers,” and Dave Perewitz, known as the “King of Custom Cycles,” will both be in the PPG booth to sign autographs and talk about custom designing, building, and painting custom vehicles.
Known to millions of car enthusiasts and collectors around the globe, renowned custom car designer and builder George Barris began customizing cars while in his teens in the early 1930’s. In the 40’s he and his brother Sam began making vehicles for the movies, one of the most famous being James Dean’s Rebel Without A Cause. He has created hundreds of vehicles for television and the movies, including the first “Batmobile” for the original Batman TV show with Adam West, as well as vehicles for the Beverly Hillbillies, The Munsters, The Green Hornet, The Dukes of Hazzard, Knight Rider, Starsky & Hutch, and many, many more.
PPG finishes have played a major role in Barris’s masterpieces. He has used PPG finishes since the 1940’s, when it was known as Ditzler, and used Ditzler toners to make his kustom colors. He recently utilized the latest Vibrance Collection finishes from PPG while restoring the MONKEEMOBILE, which he built for the famous 1960’s TV series “The Monkees.
Cycle magazines all over the world have hailed Dave Perewitz as a master of art in motion. His business, Perewitz Cycle Fabrications in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, is known for producing one-of-a-kind, hand-built choppers that are as comfortable and reliable as they are beautiful. Two of his spectacular custom creations will be on display in the PPG booth at SEMA, including his “Flaming Masterpiece” bike. This awesome cycle, featuring one of his signature flame designs, was recently named the winner of the Discovery Channel Biker Build-Off that aired on October 9, 2006.
